Ask Me About My Church

The minister at our church has had a brilliant idea (at least, I think it is brilliant). As Christians, it can be difficult to know when to share our faith with someone else. Some people are very curious while others can be offended, feeling that we are being too pushy. Some are waiting to have the Gospel shared while others want nothing to do with Christians precisely because they feel that we are too pushy and intrusive. Being a Christian can also be lonely sometimes, it feels like you are the only one in your local community outside your church.

In the community in which our church is situated, we are trying this programme this year. Almost all of the churches (most were very interested, Protestant AND Catholic, only a few declined to participate) have asked their members and adherents to take a lawn sign and on December 12th at 6 p.m., we are all going to put our signs on our lawns and leave them out until after Christmas. The signs serve two purposes - to show the presence of Christians in our community and to give our neighbours the chance to ask about our faith if they so desire it. We aren't alienating people by pushing our faith on them but we aren't hiding in the shadows so that someone who might be interested won't know to ask and come along one day.

I hope we do get asked and I look forward to taking a drive around to see where the signs turn up. For more information, click on this link.
